PARENTS SHOULD TALK TO KIDS ABOUT DRUGS

Letter writer Bret Mason suggests that drug kits and drug testing of our
youth do not harm relationships. Rather, he tells us, it is drug abuse that
does so. I would invite consideration of the thought that if parents needs
a urine sample from their child to ascertain if drugs are being used, the
relationship is already in serious jeopardy.

Parents, if you want to know if your children are using drugs, why not just
ask them? The only logical reason they would overtly lie is if they do not
trust the person asking the question. If that should be the case in your
home, you are not likely to heal that broken trust by forcing a urine sample.
