ADAPT HAS BEEN OFFERING A YOUTH SUBSTANCE ABUSE PROGRAM SINCE 1988

Re: Halton Desperately In Need Of Detox Centre (March 1, The Post).

The Post's front page article was misleading.

The article focuses on the lack of services and programs in Halton Region
that can assist young people and their families with substance abuse
problems. An inside headline noted the "lack of treatment in Halton leaves
parents feeling helpless."

Although insufficient funding for alcohol/drug treatment is a genuine issue
for adults and youths alike, the article failed to note that community
alcohol and drug treatment services are available to Halton youth and their
parents free of charge at ADAPT.

ADAPT has been providing a comprehensive youth program since 1988 and
served more than 500 clients last year. We work in partnership with many
other Halton youth service providers in order to deliver the most
comprehensive service possible. The organization is funded by the Ontario
Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.

I hope this information will assist young people and their families, who
are in need of support regarding alcohol and drug issues. ADAPT certainly
supports the idea that increased funding for additional addiction services
is necessary and continues to advocate for service expansion.

However, lets not overlook the fact that professional, confidential and
cost-free services do exist within Halton.

For detailed information on all ADAPT services, visit our Web site at
