MARIJUANA NOT DEADLY, DOES HAVE MEDICAL USE

I found the recent Daily Times editorial on medical marijuana interesting,
but there is a lot more to this story.

Thirty years ago this past Friday, a presidential commission presented a
report called "Marijuana: A Signal of Misunderstanding" to President Nixon.

The commission was formed as a result of Congress reworking the drug laws
in 1969 (which we live with to this day). Marijuana was placed into
schedule one, in order to satisfy Nixon's tough attitude towards hippies.
If you read the Maryland or federal drug laws, you will find that a
schedule one drug is defined as highly addictive, deadly and with no
medical use.

We all know that simply is not true. Let us face the facts, marijuana was
placed into schedule one because it was identified with the Vietnam
anti-war movement. Let us stop this nonsense and acknowledge the truth;
marijuana does have medical use.
