SCHOOLMATES SMELL SOMETHING ROTTEN

Chris Laurin is the talk of St. Matthew High.

The fifteen-year-old and his classmates are lapping up the media attention
while taking a stand against Laurin's two-day suspension.

"This is ridiculous," said Grade 10 student Duane Naipaul. "The policies
and the faculty at this school are ignorant. The suspension was really
unreasonable."

Naipaul's feelings are not isolated. Much of the student body is rallying
behind Laurin.

"Maybe they should lockdown the staff and have the dogs sniff them," said
11th grader Jennifer Seguin. "They're trying too hard to make the school
perfect, and now they've attracted a lot of negative attention."

Krystal Atkinson, a Grade 10 student, is upset by the suspension, but feels
it might help keep drugs away from St. Matt's.

"The suspension is not fair, Chris didn't have anything on him," she said.
"But people with drugs will be more careful around here."

The use of drug sniffing dogs is also a hot topic of discussion.

"I think the school will need to change its ways," said 10th grader Kayla
Hawkins. "(The dogs) aren't perfect, and they can make mistakes."
