VALDEZ DEFENDS DRUG TESTS

Department of Transportation and Communication Undersecretary Art Valdez
said he is supporting the drug test being implemented by the Land
Transportation Office despite complaints from drivers about the additional
charges imposed on them.

He said those who are into drugs should not be allowed to drive and that
those who meet an accident should be required to undergo drug test.

He denied reports of a rift between him and Secretary Pantaleon Alvarez. He
claimed that the delay in Alvarez's appointment as DOTC secretary is due to
the confirmation process.

I have been in the department for sometime and have worked closely with
Alvarez, he also claimed.
