IS WAR WORTH THE COST?
The Bush administration, in agreement with the CIA, has decided not to
destroy the opium crop in Afghanistan. President Bush, who previously
linked the Afghan drug trade directly to terrorism, has decided that
"winning the war" in Afghanistan and preserving our "ally," the president
of Pakistan, necessitate opium poppy production. Is either the war on drugs
or the war in Afghanistan worth American lives and the enormous costs of both?
