POLICE, SCHOOL SEND WRONG MESSAGE
To the Editor of The Day:
In response to The Day's March 29 article "Police sweep school for drugs,"
I'm glad these high school children are learning what it's like to live in
a police state and not getting any dangerous ideas about freedom and
liberty. But why stop at searching their lockers? Why not perform body
cavity searches too, after all these druggies could be hiding their stashes
anywhere.
Perhaps everyone's home, car and person should be searched as well. After
all, if you're not guilty, wouldn't you welcome the police and their
drug-sniffing dogs into your home and gladly provide urine samples on
demand to send the "right message" about drug use?
It seems as though we just can't go far enough to win the war on (some) drugs.
