SAN DIEGO CONSIDERS MMJ ID CARDS
SAN DIEGO (AP) -- The city is considering a plan to issue identity cards for
approved users of medical marijuana.
The chairwoman of the city's medical marijuana task force said Monday that
the group plans to present an identity card proposal to a City Council
committee next month.
In addition, the council voted 8-1 on Monday to support state legislation
for a voluntary statewide registry of medical marijuana users.
"This is just another way for (patients) to be able to prove their medical
need," said Juliana Humphrey, the task force chairwoman. "For the police,
they don't want to arrest sick people."
San Francisco is the only large California city that issues medical
marijuana identity cards, allowing people with a doctor's approval to
receive the identification for a $25 fee.
