SONG NOT MEANT TO GLORIFY MARIJUANA

Editor, The Record:

Response to Myrna Monette's letter in The Record, March 28:

Thank you for your letter of March 20, 2002 in which you express your
displeasure with certain aspects of our recent presentation of Ain't
Misbehavin' at the Clarke Theatre in Mission. I am sorry that you did not
enjoy The Viper Song in the production.

Ain't Misbehavin' is a revue of the music of Fats Waller who lived in the
first half of the 1900s. The Viper Song is a spoof of a period in time and
of a particular type of person from that era.

There are many double entendres in the song and in no way is the song meant
to glorify the use of marijuana. It was certainly not our intention to
offend anyone with this portrayal, and I extend our sincere apologies if
this was the case. I am, however, pleased that you enjoyed the majority of
the show.

We are happy to once again be presenting a series of three plays next year
at the Clarke Theatre and I hope that you will continue to join us.

Bill Millerd, Artistic managing director Arts Club Theatre
