DON'T BE A DOPE
To the Editor:
A police officer recently noted that Alabama ranked 49th in the nation in
illegal drug and currency seizures in 2000.
However, he added, the first six months of this year have been dedicated to
improving skills in fighting the war on drugs in Alabama.
First, anyone who is addicted to drugs must get themselves into a drug
rehab program.
Second, anyone who aids and abets in the trafficking of drugs must be
punished to the full extent of the law in order to protect our citizenry.
Third, all young people must be taught the truth about what these drugs do
to a person's life and body.
The temporary euphoria results in a human nightmare.
Drugs in moderation and prescription are for healing. Drugs for recreation
and addiction are deadly.
That's why those who take drugs under such circumstances ought to realize
there's a reason they call it "dope."
