CONDONING DRUG USE MISGUIDED

Brian Bennett admits he doesn't know what "drink responsibly" means, but
then proceeds to tell us to say yes to responsible drug use ("Teach
responsibility on drug use, not 'just say no,'" @issue, April 11). He
claims that what is missing is someone teaching kids how to use dangerous
things safely. Is he implying that we should teach kids a safe way to use
crack and heroin?

Finally, Bennett implies that mothers giving children aspirin creates
addicts and alcoholics. This is nonsense. A small percentage of people who
ever take drugs or a drink become addicted. We don't know beforehand who
they will be.
