DRUGS' PLEASURE COMES WITH RISK
Jonathan Zimmerman's argument that we should tell kids the truth about the
pleasure of drugs is axiomatic ("Telling kids basic truth about drugs best
policy," @issue, April 16). Obviously, marijuana gives pleasure. So do
heroin, cocaine and alcohol. Surely any intelligent kid knows this from
simple logic, if not experience.
Why else would people jeopardize their health, their future and their
freedom if there were no pleasure to be had? The more salient question is
whether they know that with the pleasure comes a measurable risk of the
most egregious depths of human despair, degradation and enslavement.
