NORTH CAROLINA: DRUG DOSAGES LEAD TO SUSPENSION
The State Medical Board suspended the license of Dr. Joseph Talley
for a minimum of one year for prescribing high doses of narcotics for
patients in pain. In January, the Drug Enforcement Administration
withdrew Dr. Talley's registration number to prescribe controlled
substances, saying that at least 23 of his former patients had died,
in part from drug overdoses. Dr. Talley, 65, who has practiced since
1969 in the village of Grover, maintained in his sentencing hearing
that he had done nothing wrong.
