RCMP MONITOR POT PROTEST
No charges were laid during a small protest of marijuana laws at
Muskoseepi Park Saturday.
RCMP were called to the park around 4:30 p.m. when an undetermined
number of people were seen smoking pot in honour of 4-20 Day, an
unofficial rally in support of legalizing marijuana. The rally broke
up upon police arrival but there were no incidents or arrests.
"It was a protest and an officer attended to keep the peace," said
RCMP spokesman Jim Hendry.
It's not known where 4-20 Day got started, but, aside from being 20th
day of the fourth month, 4-20 is the police code for a drug bust in
Los Angeles.
The day generally garners more attention - and participation - in
larger cities, but it's believed to be the fourth year that 4-20 Day
has been "recognized" here.
