PLAYING BY THE RULES
I was saddened to hear Thornton Police Lt. Lori Moriarty appear on TV news
and state that she thought the recent decision by the Colorado Supreme
Court in the Tattered Cover case "placed a hurdle in the way of law
enforcement," or words to that effect.
I support law enforcement as it strives "To Serve and Protect," when it
adheres to that doctrine.
When it becomes so arrogant and self-serving as to try an end run around
the First Amendment, as in the Tattered Cover case, and then whines when it
gets tackled makes me ashamed.
Let's continue supporting law enforcement, as long as it plays by the rules.
But let's rein it in when it tries to abrogate the basic rules of our nation.
