FORUM FOR PARENTS ON ILLEGAL DRUG USE
Ledyard -- The local police and youth services bureau is sponsoring a forum
Thursday at the high school to inform parents about the use of illegal drugs.
Called Drugs of the New Millenium, the seminar is being presented by the
Connecticut Narcotics Officers' Association. The seminar is 7 to 8:30 p.m.
in the library. Some of the drugs to be discussed are OxyContin, Ecstasy
and Rohypnol.
"Unfortunately, teens are exposed to these drugs in every community," said
Liz Smith, the town police school resource officer and DARE instructor.
In recent weeks, several students in area schools have been arrested for
possession and consumption of illegal drugs.
"We see this presentation as an opportunity for our citizens to be aware of
what our (children) are exposed to on a daily basis," said Cathie Sedlack,
youth services program developer.
