WASTE OF RESOURCES

Friday's heroic raid by our county Sheriff's Department has shut down
our local cannabis co-op.

I know we all feel safer. My cousin with glaucoma and my neighbor
with spastic quadriplegia can now go back to buying their cannabis on
the street from high school kids where they belong. Meanwhile,
seriously threatening drugs such as methamphetamine are proliferating
in our county.

Sheriff Hedges, how can you justify the waste of our taxes and energy
on persecuting marijuana consumers? Medical or otherwise, cannabis is
not the threat to our society that the federal government doggedly
insists that it is.

There is vast, legitimate scientific evidence that cannabis is not
only a very low-risk recreational drug, but that it holds great
promise as a useful therapeutic agent to treat pain and a variety of
illnesses with a very acceptable risk/benefit ratio.

You may not have any control over the DEA, but certainly you could
choose not to squander county resources on such folly by facilitating
our federal government's wasteful, counterproductive and draconian
drug policies.
