MEXICO: 8 DRUG WORKERS KILLED
Gunmen killed eight men and wounded six others in a remote mountain area
known for drug trafficking, authorities said. The motive for the ambush
early Wednesday at Bastantita, in the northern mountains of Durango, was
unclear. A newspaper, Milenio, reported that snipers in nearby hills shot
the workers while they drove in a pickup truck to a plantation of poppies
used in the production of heroin and opium.
