MORE OFFICERS FOR TIMES SQ.
The Police Department will assign more uniformed and undercover officers to
Times Square in response to anecdotal reports that prostitution and
low-level drug dealing are rising, Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly
said yesterday.
Mr. Kelly held a news conference at 43rd Street and Broadway to announce
the increased police presence, called Operation Neon Light, which will draw
officers from the gang and vice squads and increase police visibility
during the late-night and early-morning hours. Officers at the Port
Authority Bus Terminal will also step up patrols, he said.
