BILL FOR DRUG CZAR
Bill McClellan's April 29 column, "Failed narcotics bust once again shows
the futility of drug war," provided a most intelligent proposal for
handling the drug problem in America.
Generally, I do not agree with McClellan's views, but in this case I agree
with him and take an unusual exception to my conservative friends who want
to fill our jails with the offenders.
Our jails are full of people who are no different in using marijuana than
those of us who socially drink alcohol or take tranquilizers to alter our
state of mind.
I would encourage the Post-Dispatch to provide more coverage on the
movement to utilize McClellan's approach to the drug problem in America by
legalizing marijuana and by stopping at the source the hard drugs coming
into the country.
