EMTS TO DISTRIBUTE DRUG TREATMENT CARDS TO OVERDOSE VICTIMS

Building on his "Baltimore Believe" campaign against drug addiction, Mayor
Martin O'Malley announced yesterday a new information card that will be
provided to overdose victims.

Emergency medical technicians will give out the blue-black-and-white
"Believe in Yourself" business cards in the hopes that they will spur
people to seek help and reduce overdose deaths. The cards list telephone
numbers for drug and alcohol abuse treatment, with the stated assurance
that all calls are confidential.

"In that first time they overdose, maybe their second or third time, there
is a window of opportunity there where they can be scared straight,"
O'Malley said yesterday in front of a Baltimore Believe billboard at Howard
and 26th streets. "There is a way out of drug addiction."
