PEOPLE MISUNDERSTAND TRUE MEANING OF RAVES

I found the May 5 article "Ecstasy stars in rave at coliseum" offensive.
Only one viewpoint was presented.

I don't refer to myself as a raver because I'm an individual, not a label.
Individuality is what it's all about. People believe we're crazy because of
the clothing we choose to wear. I find the diversity inspiring.

The statements from two law enforcement officers estimating that 90% to
100% of ravers were on drugs disturbs me because I, for one, don't use any
drugs whatsoever. I'm well-acquainted with several individuals who attended
Psychosis VII. Not one of them was on any drug. We're not there for drugs;
we're there for the talent.

I liked that the article stated that raves aren't the only place such drug
usage occurs.

Raves are a place to escape from society's judgmental views and popularity
contests. The true meaning of raves is deeper than many can imagine. Many
believe ravers are uneducated. Those who believe that are more ignorant
than any raver; I can honestly say some of the most intelligent people I've
met are ravers.

My opinions are rarely allowed to be expressed, because they differ from
society's. That is why I wrote this: to exercise my right as an American -
freedom of speech.
