WHAT'S HAWAII GOT TO DO WITH VANCOUVER?
To the editor:
As a Vancouver resident-someone whose taxes fund the Vancouver Police
Department-I was puzzled as to why an American reader would be attempting a
specious attack on the Courier's Allen Garr and his eye-opening columns on
the IDEAS conference ("'Adolescent Garr irks American," Letters, May 15).
Not to mention Garr's exposure of the [alleged] complicity of Odd Squad
officers in misuse of public funds and their attempts to undermine public
policy.
I would ask Jeanette McDougal if she is speaking in her capacity as
spokesperson for a prohibitionist lobby group that stubbornly continues to
push failed policies, or as a taxpayer whose funds are being used to
promote activities of such lobby groups. Since it appears that she is the
former, and, unless Hawaii has been recently annexed, not the latter, I
leave the determination as to who is really being adolescent (as well as
irrelevant) as an exercise for the reader.
