STOP PANDERING TO THE RUPERTS

Sir - As a middle-aged taxpayer I am now assured, though I have long
suspected, that every penny spent on education against the use of drugs is
wasted. Here we have a presumably well-educated 25-year-old, Rupert Turner,
claiming to have experimented with practically all the drugs currently
available in Britain.

As someone who has spent almost three times as long as Mr Turner in this
wonderful world, at times in some very, very squalid conditions, I have
never found it necessary to become stupefied in order to enjoy myself.

The war on drugs has been won in Singapore. I suggest we follow its example
and stop pandering to the Ruperts of this country.
