LEGION HELPS KASLO STUDENTS SAY 'NO' TO SUBSTANCE ABUSE

KASLO - Grades 6 and 7 students will learn about the dangers of drug and
alcohol abuse thanks to a $1,500 grant from the Royal Canadian Legion
Foundation.

The money will go towards funding the Drug and Alcohol Resistance Education
(DARE) program delivered by the RCMP. DARE is in its second year in Kaslo.

The foundation is the fundraising arm of the Legion's BC/Yukon Command. It
raises about $2.5 million every year through a variety of activities at
branch level. The money is distributed by the branches in their
communities to support an array of services and activities, including
sports programs for youth and seniors, student bursaries and scholarships,
educational facilities, medical research and equipment and citizenship
programs for youth.

Funds raised by the Poppy Fund during Veterans' Week are reserved
exclusively for helping ex-service personnel and their families and other
authorized special-use expenditures.
