DEMOCRATS DISMISS WA GOVT'S PROPOSED CANNABIS LEGISLATION
The Western Australian Government's plan to introduce harsher punishment
for people who grow cannabis in hydroponic conditions rather than in
natural conditions has been described as nonsense.
Legislation dealing with cannabis use is expected to be introduced into the
State Parliament later this year.
Democrats Senator Brian Greig says the distinction between cannabis grown
in either hydroponic or natural conditions is not made anywhere else in
Australia and is impractical.
"We Democrats believe that the law should be structured around not on,
rather on how much is grown and not on how it is grown," Senator Greig said.
He says the State Government's approach will do nothing to stop people
abusing the drug and highlights the need for a national approach to the issue.
