YOUNG OFFENDER SENTENCED FOR CRIMINAL NEGLIGENCE
A young offender has been sentenced to 18 months in jail and 18 months of
probation after a 23-year-old man died of an apparent drug overdose in
December.
On Dec. 26, Camrose police initiated a sudden death investigation after the
23-year-old man was found dead in his apartment. The investigation
determined the man had ingested a quantity of drug, hydromorphone, supplied
by a 16-year-old youth.
The young offender was charged with criminal negligence causing death. On
May 24, he was convicted of the charge in Camrose Youth Court. The youth
also spent six months in pre-trial custody, prior to sentencing. The
maximum sentence for a young offender is three years.
