MOTHER SHARED POT, POLICE SAY

A Stafford County woman has been charged with giving marijuana to her two
teen-agers and two of their friends--then smoking it with them while they
skipped school.

Rhonda Lynn Metcalfe, 39, of 393 Spotted Tavern Road was charged Wednesday
with possession of marijuana and four counts of contributing to the
delinquency of minors, sheriff's Maj. David Decatur said.

Police discovered the alleged pot party after a worried mother called the
Sheriff's Office that day, saying she suspected her 16-year-old son was at
a friend's house on Spotted Tavern Road instead of at school.

When Deputy D.S. Pylant arrived at the house at 11:17 a.m., he heard voices
out back, Decatur said.

When he walked around back, he could see through the sliding-glass door and
saw five people sitting in the kitchen smoking from a bong-type smoking
device, Decatur said.

Then the family dog began to bark and everyone turned and looked at the deputy.

A young girl picked up the bong and ran into another room, Decatur said.

Pylant knocked on the door and asked if he could come in. Metcalfe opened
the door and let him in

Decatur said the deputy immediately spotted a bag of suspected marijuana on
the kitchen counter.

Pylant's investigation revealed that Metcalfe had provided the suspected
marijuana for her son and another 16-year-old boy, as well as her
14-year-old daughter and a 13-year-old girl, Decatur said.

Deputies seized three bongs from the house, along with the bag of alleged
marijuana, Decatur said.

No charges have been filed against the teens, Decatur said.
