Drug Abuse Continues To Take Frightening New Turns

Parents and members of the Spartanburg community need to be aware that
young people are finding more and more creative ways to use and abuse drugs.

Over-the-counter cold medicines are being purchased in bulk to "cook up"
methamphetamines. The resulting drug is dangerous and sometimes lethal.
Another problem: The recipe for making methamphetamines is on the Internet.

A major challenge is that the products used to make methamphetamines are
not illegal and can be easily purchased.

According to a recent CNN report, retailers such as Wal-Mart are supporting
police in discouraging methamphetamine production. Wal-Mart limits the sale
of cold medicines and some diet supplements to three boxes.

The Health Resource Center thanks Wal-Mart and encourages other retailers
to consider such policies.
