CHECK POINTS ARE MEANT TO SAVE LIVES

G.E. Twigg seemed a bit concerned that random drug stops, sobriety check
points and seat belt checks were an infringment on our Fourth Amendment
rights (letter, June 6). No offense to G.E Twigg, but it seems that those
opposed to these random checks are the drug dealers who make a living
selling narcotics to our children, the drunken drivers who kill or injure
our children, only to walk away with a slap on the wrist, and the drivers
who think the open road is their playground.

I, for one, am thankful that the police take such a concerned attitude when
it comes to protecting citizens. Drug dealers make a living out of helping
others destroy their lives; drunken drivers make a living out of killing
other people; and seat belts save lives.

We should be thanking the police for caring about our lives, instead of
condemning them for doing their jobs.
