LEGALIZED MARIJUANA SHOULD BE NEW APPROACH
I was impressed with Sally Shepherd's June 2 letter, "Legal system, drug
programs run poorly."
I agree with Shepherd about more education and rehabilitation instead of
jail time for drug offenders.
She makes more sense than any politician who gets elected by saying how
tough on crime he's going to be.
Because of this type of mentality and all these "Rambos" with their "drug
war," every jail in the state is full, and most counties are broke.
We should legalize marijuana and study other ways to control drugs besides
filling up our jails with nonviolent lawbreakers.
Of course, as long as we allow those right-wing fanatics to run our
country, changes will not come about.
Incidentally, I do not use illegal drugs. Nor do I approve of tobacco
products, but I don't think they should be illegal.
