MCMINNVILLE HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER CHARGED IN METH LAB CASE

McMINNVILLE, Tenn.- A high school teacher has been arrested on charges of
having a meth lab in a barn behind her home.

Rhonda Ann Jones, 47, and her boyfriend, 34-year-old Kevin Waymon Magness,
were charged Wednesday with manufacturing drugs.

Jones is the special education teacher at Warren County High and a former
physical education instructor. She's been with the school system for about
25 years.

"We found a meth lab, many components to make meth, and layered liquids _
basically all they needed to make meth," Warren County Sheriff Jackie
Matheny told WKRN-TV of Nashville.

Jones, who was teaching English during summer school, was suspended without
pay.

"This is a lady that came from a good family. A very good person, a good
educator to my knowledge. And it's a shock to all of us that something like
that would happen," the sheriff said.

George Bolding, her principal, told WTVF-TV of Nashville that he's known
Jones for years and can't believe she was arrested.

"We sit here and preach _ drugs, drugs, drugs, drugs, drugs _ in the high
school. That's once a month around here. And when you get a teacher who's
supposed to be on our side, as we call it, it hurts a little bit."

Jones and Magness were both released on bond. They are to appear in court
next Tuesday.

McMinnville is 66 miles southeast of Nashville.
