WNBA'S REED FACES MARIJUANA CHARGES

PHOENIX (AP) - Former WNBA All-Star Brandy Reed, who was suspended
indefinitely by the Phoenix Mercury on Tuesday, faces misdemeanor charges
of marijuana possession in Mississippi.

Reed, 25, was arrested in Hattiesburg, Miss., on April 5 and was cited on
suspicion of marijuana possession, The Arizona Republic reported Wednesday.

She failed to appear for a court date April 16.

Reed also was arrested in Hattiesburg on Nov. 13, 2001, and cited on
charges of marijuana possession and driving on the wrong side of the road.
Those charges also are unresolved in Hattiesburg City Court.

Reed played collegiately at Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.

Mercury officials said Tuesday's suspension was for conduct detrimental to
the team and was not related to the criminal charges.

Reed was suspended by the Mercury after one game last season for the same
reasons as this week's disciplinary action, and didn't return.
