NO HARM REDUCTION

Once again, the editor of the Vancouver Sun has used his pulpit to
pontificate for "harm reduction" as the solution to the devastation of
Vancouver's Downtown Eastside communities, while castigating those who do
not share his opinion. What does "harm reduction" mean to you, sir? I can
assure you that providing addicts with the drugs, drug paraphernalia, and
comfortable places to inject does not reduce harm to the 80 per cent of
abused children who are grievously harmed by substance abusing parents.

Please wake up to the fact that Vancouver has already completed its pilot
project. The type of "harm reduction" solution you are demanding has been
implemented for more than 10 years in the Downtown Eastside; it has failed
miserably and the problem is rapidly growing -- expanding, not moving --
into other neighbourhoods. I suggest to you, sir, that we begin to look for
some different solutions.
