A LOOK AT SOME COMMONLY USED 'CLUB DRUGS'

(AP)_ Ecstasy, or MDMA: a synthetic, psychoactive drug with both stimulant
and hallucinogenic properties, known as the hug drug because users can
become overly emotional and touch-sensitive. Mostly taken as a pill, it
increases heart rate and blood pressure, and can cause temporary impotence.

_ GHB or gamma-hydroxybutyrate, also known as liquid ecstasy, somatomax or
scoop: used for its euphoric, sedative and body building effects.

_ Ketamine, also known as special K or vitamin K: an anesthetic approved
for both human and animal use in medical settings since 1970. It can be
injected or snorted, causing dream-like states and hallucinations.

_ Methamphetamine hydrochloride, also known as speed, meth and chalk: a
stimulant that keeps people awake, enhancing mood and body movement. Sold
as pills or as chunky "ice" crystals that can be smoked.

_ "Poppers", or amyl nitrite: commonly used to relax muscles and heighten
sexual sensation. Called "poppers" because it was first available in a
capsule that was cracked or popped open to release vapors. Used with
Viagra, it can cause a deadly drop in blood pressure.

_ Viagra, sold by prescription to help men with erectile dysfunction have
sex. Also used by healthy men to prolong sex or counter the impotence
effect of other drugs.
