COUNTY RECEIVES $10K FOR DRUG WORK

WETUMPKA - Local law enforcement agencies received a nice gift Tuesday
morning. A gift they had earned, but a gift nonetheless.

During a morning press conference, U.S. Attorney Leura Garrett Canary
and U.S. Marshall Jessie Seroyer presented a total of $120,000 to area
agencies operating within the 19th Judicial Circuit, which includes
Autauga, Elmore and Chilton Counties. Chilton County Sheriff's
Department received more than $10,000 in the allocation.

"This will really help out in future drug cases," said Chilton County
Sheriff Billy Wayne Fulmer. "The money will go to equipment and future
drug buys."

The proceeds resulted from money forfeited during drug investigations
and prosecutions. These investigations and prosecutions were joint
efforts between the DEA and local law enforcement agencies.

The money given to the Chilton County Sheriff's Department will be put
in the department's drug fund, which can only be spent on drug related
activities.

"These agencies have done a super job," said 19th Judicial Circuit
District Attorney Randall Houston. "This money will be put to good use
and it could not have been possible without to the hard work of all
these agencies."

Houston said the District Attorney's Office does not have the power to
condemn property in drug cases that is left to officials on the
federal level.
