POT NOT AS BAD AS BOOZE
To the editor:
I just read your story, Pot Smokers To Share Venue With Christians, in the
June 23 Sunday Daily News. The two groups aren't mutually exclusive,
according to my 47 years of experience. Here are some further comments:
First, George Campbell's idea to sell hot dogs and sodas to raise money for
his youth group is brilliant. When God gives you lemons, make lemonade, as
the saying goes. This is a guy who probably has something relevant to say
in his sermons. Rock on, George.
Second, thanks to the citizens and government of Canada for having an
independent take on cannabis and not just letting the U.S. drug policy get
shoved down your throats. Marijuana isn't heroin, LSD, or crack cocaine.
Heck, those of us who've sampled pot and alcohol mostly agree that pot
isn't as potentially dangerous as the latter. If I'm at a soiree, I'd much
rather deal with someone who has a bit of a pot buzz than a drunk.
The comment about some pot heads complaining about the hymn-singing, well,
those same folks will complain about water being wet if they're not in the
mood for it. That attitude goes beyond using pot or attending church.
