DRUG WAR
To The Editor:
An open letter to County Legislator Dick Wilson in response to Mr. George
seeking his support for reelection.
To Dick Wilson, In the past eight years your accomplishments were and still
are to waste tax payers money on a drug war that has failed.
Also as a member of the Independence party, I feel there is too much
crossing over in the party's and for that and many other reasons I will be
joining the Libertarian party.

OPPOSES DRUG WAR
To the editor:
St Lawrence County Legislator Richard Wilson claims his biggest
accomplishment is the Drug Task Force. (Wilson Says Some May Not Like His
Style, But It's Him, Ogdensburg Journal/Advance News Sunday 23 June 2002).
I don't think any politician can win any election on the platform 'more
drug war'. As usual Mr. Wilson only tells half the story. " Seizures are
making more money than their (Drug Task Force) salaries". Would you please
prove that Mr. Wilson?
If at all possibly true, the taxpayer picks up the lion's share of the
cost. Mr. Wilson what is the cost per arrest for, supplies and support
personal for the courts, D A's office, probation, mandatory substance
evaluation, time in jail, and Public defenders office (keep in mind when an
individual is stripped of their assets, the taxpayer pays for their defense).
How much more of a cost burden is on St. Lawrence County taxpayers from the
Border Patrol roadblocks? Majority of those arrested doesn't even live in
the County. The $66 million increase to the Border Patrol budget is for
securing our borders, not protecting us from ourselves.
Answer this Mr. Wilson. Is everyone driving along Rt. 37 carrying cannabis?
Are the pullovers the luck of the draw? Or, do they already know the
cannabis is coming so instead of taking out the source they seize assets of
individuals transporting it?
