DARE TO RIDE PROJECT

On Tuesday, July 9, 2002 Stan Wawzonek will be biking through the Broadview
RCMP area in support of the Drug Awareness Resistance Education Program
(D.A.R.E.). In honor of Wawzonek's trek through the Broadview RCMP
Detachment area, July 9th has been declared D.A.R.E. Day and some events
have been planned.

Wawzonek a 60 year old grandfather from Brantford, Ontario is biking across
Canada to promote the D.A.R.E. program. The journey started on April 30,
2002 in St. Johns, Newfoundland and will finish in Victoria, B.C. on July
24, 2002. Wawzonek has three goals: first, to finish the journey; second,
to promote the D.A.R.E. program, encourage communities to set up a D.A.R.E.
program and third to raise funds to support the efforts of D.A.R.E. program
throughout Canada.

Whitewood, Sk will be the first D.A.R.E. town that Wawzonek will pass
through in Saskatchewan and the Broadview RCMP Detachment wants to give him
a huge Saskatchewan welcome.

Everyone is invited to be at the Whitewood Tourism Booth just off Hwy #1 on
Lalonde Street to welcome Stan to Whitewood. Wawzonek is expected to be
there at 9 am. There will be coffee, juice and donuts available. A silver
collection and a raffle will take place with proceeds to be split between
the Broadview RCMP D.A.R.E. Program and Stan Wawzonek Dare to Ride
Project'. Join us between 8 am and 10 am.

Wawzonek will continue westward. A hamburger lunch will take place at the
Broadview RCMP Detachment from 11 am to 1:30 pm. For a toonie you can enjoy
a barbecue hamburger, grilled by your favorite Mountie and a pop. There
will be a 50/50 draw and all proceeds will be split between Broadview RCMP
D.A.R.E. Program and Wawzonek's Dare to Ride Project'. Daren the D.A.R.E.
lion will be joining in all the festivities.

The funding that Wawzonek hopes to raise will go to promote D.A.R.E.
Canada; assist police forces in setting up D.A.R.E. programs; provide
D.A.R.E. police officer training and supplies to teach D.A.R.E.. To teach
the D.A.R.E. program, a police officer must complete a two week course
taught by experienced D.A.R.E. mentors.

The Broadview RCMP Detachment has taught the D.A.R.E. program for three
years at Whitewood and Broadview schools. The program was expanded to
Grenfell this school year. There are over 170 D.A.R.E. graduates in our
communities.

Community groups provide funding on the local level to cover the expense of
books and the graduation held after the students complete the D.A.R.E. program.

Everyone is invited out to both events. All past, present and future
D.A.R.E. graduates are encouraged to attend wearing their D.A.R.E.
t-shirts. Let's show Stan and his crew some of that wonderful Saskatchewan
hospitality and make his trip through our part of the world memorable.

Donations for Stan Wawzonek's DARE to Ride Project' can be made at any CIBC
bank and donations to the Broadview RCMP D.A.R.E. program can be made at
the Broadview RCMP Detachment.
