DRUG-BUST STUDENTS CAN RETURN TO CLASS
Six of the seven students arrested on drug-related charges in an undercover
police operation at Kelvin High School early last winter are eligible to
return to classes when school opens Aug. 27, Winnipeg School Division board
chairwoman Liz Ambrose said yesterday.
"They have the option of applying now," Ambrose said.
One schools-of-choice student from outside WSD will not be allowed into any
division school, Ambrose said.
The seven were suspended for the rest of the school year after police took
students from the school in handcuffs Nov. 30. An undercover police officer
posing as a student had purchased marijuana and ecstasy at Kelvin.
Ambrose said trustees will not be told if any of the students return to
Kelvin, and the division will not inform the public if any of the six are
back in the school. No special conditions will be placed on the students,
Ambrose said.
