NEW LAWS WON'T SLOW ILLEGAL FLOW
Regarding the June 29 letter by John Egolf (Change the drug laws), changing
the drug laws will not change the flow of drugs in this country. Mr. Egolf
proposes that if the drug laws were reformed, the prices would plummet and
many drug dealers would be bankrupt. But this isn't like the stock market.
He also states that a reasonable solution to widespread illegal drug use is
to regulate drugs like alcohol. True, alcohol has caused more than its fair
share of troubles and woes, but to put it on the same level as crack,
crystal meth, Ecstasy, GHB and other drugs is ludicrous.
Imposing age restrictions? What about those who fall under the legal age to
use drugs? No matter what restrictions you impose, there will always be
those who will find a way around it.
There are two solutions to the war on drugs: Keep fighting it, by imposing
harsher penalties for users, couriers and dealers; and zero tolerance.
