MARIJUANA IS VERY, VERY BAD . . .

Letter writer Redford Givens of San Francisco caught our attention with his
recent submission ('Insulting creation insults creator,' Opinion, June 20).

However, he misapplied a verse of Bible scripture: `Everything God has
created is good,' (1 Timothy 4:4), using this verse to argue that,
therefore, marijuana must be good.

The fact is, this verse in its context has to do with food; in this sense
all food is to be considered good.

As for plants, one can hardly apply that verse because there are burning
nettles, for instance, and poison ivy and lots of other weeds.

Pot is not good, in that it affects the brain negatively when used, and in
many cases, induces the user to experiment with even more harmful substances.

The body, which is to be nourished with good food given by God, ought not
be abused by the use of drugs.
