SUBSTANCE ABUSE HURTS MORE THAN JUST THE USER

In response to "Stop trying to protect us from ourselves." July 12, does
the letter writer think that drug and alcohol abuse hurts only one person.

Abuse, no matter what it is, touches many lives. Speaking from experience
children are hurt, probably for a lifetime.

Many families are left without a parent and children are taken from parents
by people who abuse alcohol and drugs and drive. Families and friends, also
society as a whole feels the effects.

I know it is a never-ending battle to stop abuse, but we have to keep trying.
