Going to pot?

Mesa, Ariz. -- Certainly, many people, institutions and industries in the
United States have a vested financial or political interest in perpetuating
the failed war on drugs (Would Softer Pot Law Stir Wrath Of U.S.? -- July
13). Certainly, those interests within the United States would not look on
with favour if Canada legalized or softened the laws against marijuana.

The question to ask is what is the role of Canada in relation to the United
States? Is Canada a sovereign, independent nation or an obsequious
neighbour hoping to curry favour with a superpower?

Canada should act in the best interest of Canada.
