DRUG MENACE THREATENS ALL

Editor:

I too am from the Gulf Coast (Biloxi) an have been living in Greenville for
10 months.

I am the chief nursing officer at The King's Daughters Hospital and share
the concerns of the community.

My car, and several others, in the complex we live in was recently
vandalized. Nothing was taken but a few dollars from my car, but the cost
to replace the damaged window was expensive to us all.

My concern is that more homes and cars are vandalized by people looking for
money or things that can be pawned to get the money to buy drugs.

I agree with you that more "drug arrests" need to be made so these
offenders will get the message that their activity will not be tolerated.

It is also sad to see newborn babies of mothers on drugs. These babies come
into the world with an addiction and many suffer varying degrees of
retardation in their future.

Most of the abusers of drugs know nothing else, they come from a family
where drugs were used often, it is a learned behavior that is caused by a
syndrome called "the World Of Abnormal Rearing."

I hope the new law enforcement system can help eradicate one of the most
devastating of social problems any community will ever encounter.
