POLICE WENT OVERBOARD

Police carrying out drug interdictions in the confined spaces of a B.C.
Ferry with as many as 1,500 people on board is remarkably stupid.

In the event of a drug dealer who takes offence to being arrested, and
employs lethal means to prevent being handcuffed and dragged off the ferry,
who is going to make that announcement to the passengers: "Well, folks, we
have a bit of a problem here, and although we still haven't reached the
dock, we are asking that you grab one of the available lifejackets and
leave the vessel as quickly as possible"?

Unless, of course, the plan is to stock the lifejacket lockers with enough
kevlar vests to fit every adult and child on board the vessel.

POLICE WENT OVERBOARD

The police's new anti-drug tactics on a B.C. Ferry is yet another flagrant
violation of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms perpetrated by a municipal
police forces.

May I remind everyone of the recent Vancouver police tactics of searching
people carrying backpack into the West End during the Celebration of Light
in the hopes of catching someone with liquor. One can only guess that their
next attempt at "upholding the law" might be setting up portable x-ray
machines to see what people have in their pockets and bags.
