INTRUSIVE GOVERNMENT
Regarding the great article in the July 26 Calendar section by Tyler Gray,
"It's not about drugs; it's about liberty": Gray's assertion that Orlando's
disruptive shenanigans in relation to the only thriving nighttime
businesses in the city core is an infringement of basic freedoms (albeit in
the name of drug eradication) should strike a chord with anyone concerned
about government overstepping its boundaries.
Gray should be congratulated for shining the spotlight on the city's
obsessive and myopic insistence that it is the club, the music and the glow
stick that create a drug problem. Why not ban highways and motor vehicles
because they encourage drunken driving? That makes about as much sense as
City Hall's approach to eradicating club drugs or the homeless or rainbow
flags, etc., etc., in our City Beautiful.
