REMOVING DARE MADE GOOD SENSE

Kudos to Cincinnati City Council. The recent move to eliminate the DARE
program is a rare example of commonsense politics in this crazy age. The
failing program costs local taxpayers over a quarter of a million dollar
annually, not to mention money supplied by a federal grant that, might I
remind us all, also comes from our Paychecks.

Council member Jim Tarbell said he wanted to have law-enforcement officers
on the streets where they are most effective. Listen up, parents. This now
means you are responsible for discussing the issue of illegal drugs with
your children. Sounds hard, I know.

The government has made such a surrogate mother, but the ball is in your
court now. And I think, parents, as history has proved, will be able to
raise their children without good old Uncle Sam's two cents.

Thank you, City Council, for lightening our tax burden and putting a great
responsibility back where it belongs, in the hands of the parents.
