POT'S MESSY MORAL BAGGAGE
Re Minister considers new look at legal system, Aug. 13.
"Please don't misunderstand me -- Canada has no plans to legalize
marijuana," Justice Minister Martin Cauchon is quoted as saying in the
above-referenced article.
Drug law reform activists never believed he had any intention. Rather,
Cauchon will once again follow the established tradition of leaving any
issue that carries misinformed moral baggage with it (such as abortion) to
the courts. Most Canadians don't believe the psudo-scientific babble about
the "greater problems" of legalizing cannabis coming from the United States
or from protectionist police unions.
I doubt Cauchon does either, but it's still a shame he's being lazy in this
case.
