SELL SEIZED SPEED PILLS, SUGGESTS MP

BANGKOK: A Thai member of parliament has suggested that confiscated
methamphetamine pills be sold within Thailand or overseas in a bid to boost
state coffers, a report said yesterday.

Chart Thai party member Chai Chidchob, a veteran member of the government's
Budget Committee, suggested seized speed pills be put on sale for 10 satang
(76sen), the Bangkok Post said.

"The government would earn a lot of money and stop borrowing foreign
loans," Chai was quoted as saying during the committee's deliberation on
funding for the agency charged with drug control in the country.

But the chief of the Office of Narcotics Control Bureau Kitti Limchaikit
reportedly rebuffed the idea, arguing that selling the pills to the public
would not solve drug problems in the long run. - AFP
